If the relationship has deteriorated to the point of
divorce, it is still possible to salvage it by learning how to
listen as well as talk. There are no two people who cannot
learn how to save their relationship if they just learn how to
treat each other. If you recall the way things were when you
first met - both of you were so careful of each other’s
feelings. The politeness and nice behavior that was part of the
dating experience and getting to know each other gets lost
after being together for a period of time.
All of a sudden we are not so careful of each other’s
feelings. We start to take the other one for granted. The
attention we pay to each other at first wanes. What if all of
this could be returned? This is why many women who break up with their husbands
or boyfriends will agree to date them and see if there is a
chance they might get back together. They
want to recapture the feeling that was there when the
relationship was new.
Working on a life together takes two people who want this to
happen. If there is a willingness to try, there is no reason
this cannot be a learning experience for both.
