How many people have you known that have split up and when you thought it was over for good, suddenly they were back together? What happened that made these two people who you thought were finished rekindle and salvage their relationship? Human emotions are one of the least understood emotions when it comes to love and relationships. No one knows what makes two people who were obviously out of a relationship suddenly end up back together.
When it comes to the way people react to each other, there are no set standards. There are many emotions that get in the way of actually communicating. Jealousy, hurt feelings, pride and a whole variety of feelings will keep us from communicating with the person we love and can end a relationship that may have otherwise been a forever connection.
Have you heard the old saying that there is a very thin line between love and hate? This is an actuality. There are many people who have a hard time distinguishing this line. When they say one thing they actually mean something else but their pride will not allow them to apologize. This can start a cycle where there is no communication going and the longer it goes the worse it gets.
When people learn how to communicate and state their feelings clearly without getting into the blame game, they will find it much easier to talk to each other. Without the constant, “It’s all your fault.” and “If you didn’t do this..”, it would be easier to converse and understand each others feelings. Putting the thought of everything that has happened behind you and concentrating on the present is necessary to be able to have a civil conversation with someone.
If the relationship has deteriorated to the point of divorce, it is still possible to salvage it by learning how to listen as well as talk. There are no two people who cannot learn how to save their relationship if they just learn how to treat each other. If you recall the way things were when you first met – both of you were so careful of each other’s feelings. The politeness and nice behavior that was part of the dating experience and getting to know each other gets lost after being together for a period of time.
All of a sudden we are not so careful of each other’s feelings. We start to take the other one for granted. The attention we pay to each other at first wanes. What if all of this could be returned? This is why many women who break up with their husbands or boyfriends will agree to date them and see if there is a chance they might get back together. They want to recapture the feeling that was there when the relationship was new.
Working on a life together takes two people who want this to happen. If there is a willingness to try, there is no reason this cannot be a learning experience for both.
